Cote-Rotie 2008, Domaine Pierre Gaillard, Rhone Valley, France
Having been involved in the development of La Turque at Maison Guigal, Pierre Gaillard is more than familiar with the interplay between oak and fine Côte-Rôtie. This is perfectly demonstrated here with notes of tapenade, smoky bacon and violets lifted somewhat ethereally by 10% Viognier. There was no Rose Pourpre made in 2008, so these finest grapes, mainly from the commune of Les Roziers, have all been added to the blend, lending weight and authority. Drink 2012-2017.
